Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is the government initiative to provide affordable housing to all. There are four major components of PMAY Scheme:
- In-Situ development: The government aims to develop slum areas and provide them with basic amenities like sanitation facilities. It also provides financial assistance of upto Rs. 1 Lakh to those who are eligible to improve the conditions of their house.
- Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme: It also provides a credit-linked subsidy for home loans at 6.5% to lower-income groups and middle-class income groups for construction of the house, renovating the house for the first time.
- Construction of houses: The government also constructs affordable housing for the economically deprived sections of society in partnership with private developers as per the standards of RERA act.
- Financial assistance: Further, the government also provides financial support of Rs. 1.5 Lakhs to rebuild the existing house.
Eligibility Criteria to Apply for PMAY
The eligibility criteria to apply for PMAY is mentioned below:

The process to apply for PMAY Online: If you are eligible for PMAY scheme, you can apply online through the official web portal of PMAY by following these steps.
- Firstly, visit pmaymis.gov.in.
- Now, under the citizen assessment option, Choose between ‘ For slum dwellers’ and ‘Benefit under the other three components’.
- Next, enter the Aadhar details as mentioned on the displayed page.
- Fill in necessary information such as name, contact number and others in the application form provided.
- Enter the Captcha code and click on the Save button.
- You can check the online status of your application in a few days after the verification of your application form and eligibility for the subsidy.
How to apply for PMAY under the Slum Dwellers category?
If you belong to the Slum dwellers category you can apply for PMAY scheme as mentioned below:
- Visit the official PMAY website by clicking on pmaymis.gov.in.
- Now, from the Citizen Assessment drop-down menu, choose ‘For Slum Dwellers’ option.
- Next, enter your Aadhaar Card number and then click on ‘Submit’.
- You will be directed to the next page after a successful verification process. Now, enter information about yourself like name, address and employment details.
- After filling up the required fields, enter the captcha code and click on ‘Submit’.
How to apply for PMAY subsidy under the ‘Other 3 components’ category?
If you are eligible for PMAY under any of the three categories of EWS, LIG or MIG (I and II), you need to follow the below-mentioned steps to apply for PMAY.
- Log on to the official PMAY website.
- Now, choose the ‘Benefit Under Other 3 Components’ option from the ‘Citizen Assessment’ tab.
- Provide your Aadhaar number and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
- After successful verification, you will be directed to a page. Now enter all the required information regarding your age, employment and family.
- Next, enter the captcha code and click on ‘Submit.’
